HSK (Hànyŭ Shuĭpíng Kăoshì or Chinese Proficiency Test) is China's national standardized test designed and developed by the HSK Center of Beijing Language and Culture University to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers. It includes HSK Basic, HSK Elementary-Intermediate and HSK Advanced. Successful examinees are issued a Chinese Proficiency Certificate for the corresponding examination they took. The Chinese Proficiency Certificate could serve as a proof of the candidate's actual Chinese proficiency when applying for undergraduate and graduate study in Chinese universities or as the basis for the hiring institutions to evaluate the candidate's Chinese proficiency.
